When I stepped away from the corporate IT world last December to build North of Wendigo full-time, my goal was simple: to tell more meaningful stories about our natural spaces. I have been holding a canoe paddle for nearly fifty years, and in that time, the rhythm of the water has entirely shaped how I see the Canadian wilderness.
This past summer, while hauling the camper trailer up through Pancake Bay, Sleeping Giant, and Lake Superior Provincial Park, I spent a lot of time looking through the viewfinder of my Camera, thinking about how we consume images today. We scroll past them in seconds. They live behind glass screens. I realized that to truly communicate the quiet urgency of conservation, I needed to create something tactile—a physical counterbalance to the digital noise.
Today, I am incredibly proud to announce the launch of my first major print project: Canadian Shorelines.
The Zine This is a 32-page fine-art photography zine that explores the intersection of untamed landscapes, family legacy, and environmental stewardship across the Canadian Shield. I have finalized the layout to be printed at 8.25″ x 8.25″ on premium 100lb satin paper—a stock specifically chosen to beautifully render the dynamic range, deep greys, and muted greens of the shorelines we need to protect.
Why Crowdfunding? Bringing a high-quality print publication to life requires upfront capital. By launching this project on Crowdfundr, I can bypass traditional publishing hurdles and directly fund the initial bulk order. Crowdfunding this first run allows me to maintain complete creative control over the final product while connecting directly with the community that supports this ecological work.
How to Support the Run The campaign is officially live right now. To reward the early momentum that is so critical to getting these projects off the ground, the very first 100 supporters to claim the Standard Edition will receive a hand-signed, first-edition copy.
I am also offering Gallery and Collector’s tiers that include archival 5×7 prints of unreleased shots, packaged safely in protective sleeves. With fulfillment planned for the late fall, any of these tiers will make a perfect, unique stocking stuffer for the paddler or outdoor enthusiast in your family.
Getting this photography off the screen and into your hands is a major milestone for North of Wendigo. You can view the reward tiers, and reserve your signed copy at the link below.
